We are a family-owned and operated business established more than a decade ago. Our company is founded on integrity and trustworthiness, and we take great pride in our excellent level of customer service that keeps our clients coming back to us for their painting needs.
Can I get references?
We can give you a list of our satisfied clients. We have been in the business for as long as we can remember. Hundreds of our customers tell us and write about how pleased they are with the outcome of our work. You can also check out their reviews on our Testimonials page.
How often should I have my home repainted?
Every surface is different from one another. Therefore, they require different repainting schedule depending on their exposure to the sun, water, and pollution. Exterior painting should last at least six to ten years. At Des Moines Handyman, we can help you maximize the effect of the paint. We can help you save on repainting while making sure your exterior surface looks its best.
How do I choose the best contractor for the job?
We recommend you getting three estimates for your projects to help you compare which company offers the best scope and price. Choose a company that you feel comfortable with. You should only do business with professional and trustworthy contractors to ensure that the job is done right the first right. Consider the following things when choosing the painting contractor for your project:
- Ask for references.
- Ask for the company’s Home Improvement License number and other basic information such as their phone number and mailing address.
- Ask what type of paint they intend to use on your surfaces.
- Know how many years they’ve been in the business. The longer they are in the industry, the more reliable and seasoned they become.
- Ask if they undergo training on safety techniques and practices.
- Obtain a detailed written contract that outlines the scope of the job, the start and completion date, and the warranty disclosure.
- Learn about the payment terms. The contractors can ask for a deposit upfront so that they can buy necessary materials for the job. Be careful of companies that ask for too large deposits even before the job starts.
- Get a copy of their insurance for your protection.
Can I obtain a quote over the phone?
We can schedule a meet-up in your home so that we can provide an accurate estimate. It is difficult and even impossible to give a reliable estimate over the phone because we need to see the condition of the surface that needs to be painted.
Are you licensed and insured?
Absolutely. We can provide you with a copy of our workers’ compensation and liability policies, license, and EPA RRP credential. Our company protects both our clients and workers.
How do I prepare my home for the painters?
We will let you know what preparations you need to take, depending on the scope of the project.
How much time do you need to prepare?
We have a piece of detailed information about our painting preparation on our web page.
Is power washing required before painting exteriors?
We need to powerwash the surface of your home before starting the procedure. Powerwashing aids in removing mildew, mold, and other pollutants in your home’s surface. This can make sure the surface of your home is clean and prepped-up for painting.
Can I change my paint to latex since I don’t like the odor of oil-based paints? Are there available environmentally friendly paints?
Due to consumer demand for less odorous paint, environmental regulations have developed paints with low VOC or volatile organic compounds.
Can you repair rotted wood?
Yes, we can. Our company has a full-service carpentry team that can handle repair and renovations of the exterior surface and rotted wood. We offer this to residential and commercial establishments. You can learn more about our carpentry service in our Carpentry Services for Home and Office Renovations and Repairs web page.
Do you offer touch-up paint once the project is completed?
We do. We keep the leftover paints in our client’s storage, label it accordingly, as well as the color schedule for every surface that was painted. We can use the client’s saved paint for any future paints and touch-ups.
What if there are issues after the project is over?
Our service comes with a year warranty after completion unless otherwise stated. We have special applications that have a more extended warranty, such as our elastomeric stucco coating that warrants five years after application. We will be faithful to our guarantee and be there to make repairs if there are paint peels or defect after we have completed the job.
